Mini-Film Festival Option!

Want to add a little variety and pizzazz to your next event? Especially those all-day conferences? How about a mini-film festival to shake things up? Megan will bring and show a mutually agreed upon selection of documentaries, TV shows and videos that she’s been a part of and share her behind-the-scenes experience. Consider replacing one or two talks (or perhaps a banquet) with some combination of the following (high-speed Internet access may be required):
  • The Iron Coffin – from BBC’s Timewatch; story of the quest to locate relatives of sailors who lost their lives on the U.S.S. Monitor during the Civil War -- in an attempt to identify the skeletons that were found in the ironclad when it was pulled up from the ocean floor in 2002; complements DNA talks; 1 hour
  • Half a Negro Boy Named Coleman – from Current TV; a close-up look at the discovery that Al Sharpton’s great-grandfather had been owned by relatives of Strom Thurmond; approx. 13 minutes
  • Annie Moore, the first immigrant through Ellis Island:
    • Making Up History: Searching for Annie Moore – a stage play featuring the effort by Megan and fellow genealogists to learn the truth about Annie Moore; approx. 1 hour 15 minutes
    • Annie Moore: From Cork to New York – the story of Annie’s life in a remarkable film by Irish school children; approx. 35 minutes
    • Out of Ireland – PBS news segment about the discovery of the true Annie; approx. 10 minutes
  • Shows from Roots Television – (high speed Internet access required) Pick a genealogical subject and let us suggest a program or combination of brief segments; time varies
  • Coming Soon: an orphan heirloom rescue from Hallmark Channel’s New Morning about the search to track down the owner of a 1940s photo album that had been found on the streets of Jerusalem; Good Morning America segments (Diane Sawyer’s and Robin Roberts’ roots), DNA Stories, and Unclaimed Persons
